Gary Busey returns for more Saints Row 2 vids
April 30, 2008
You may recall Gary Busey’s Saint’s Row 2 videos from earlier this month. They are, to state the least, insane. That’s to state that Gary Busey is insane, but that’s okay. It works for him, makes him money. What we’re getting at here is that Uncle Gary is back with more Saints Row 2 videos, and he’s as crazy as ever. We know the purpose of these videos is to advertise Saints Row 2, but we just can’t get over Gary. Frankly, “People don’t like getting shot in the face” may be the best line we’ve ever heard. Find another video featuring Tulsa’s insane favorite son after the break.

Late last year, we sat in awe peeping the pictures of Earth captured by the KAGUYA satellite, but we’re fairly certain we’ve spotted Engadget HQ in the latest grabs. All kidding aside, the latest HD Earthrise movie is even more desirable than the last due to this one being a “full” Earthrise, and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency isn’t hesitating to pat itself on the back for snagging such an accomplishment. Check out the read link for more pictures, video and an explanation of how the whole thing went down. [Source: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency]

Disposable Cell Phones Coming To Europe
April 29, 2008

Europe will soon be “invaded” by Hop-on and its legion of low end GSM cell phones after placing an order of over 150,000 of such handsets a few weeks ago. Each handset will retail for approximately 10 pounds Sterling, which is as cheap as it can get without being tethered down by some sort of 2-year long agreement. Just how well do you think Hop-on’s disposable handset will do in Europe I surely hope this won’t add to our growing mountain of environmental woes as people change cell phones like underwear.
GTAIV in the GTA: Midnight Launch recap (Mississauga, ON)
April 29, 2008
Unlike what Richard faced at Wal-Mart while picking up his copy of Grand Theft Auto IV at midnight, I saw me some crazy lines! Each gamer in Mississauga (near Toronto aka the Greater Toronto Area) must have turned up for the title because lines were large! The shot you see above was the scene for the epic GTAIV Elite Console giveaway, which I wasn’t able to snag a picture of, and after the jump is a picture of the line at my local EB Games.
Hundreds of people turned out in total at both locations but that isn’t even the crazy part. The crazy thing is both stores are in the same plaza! Within a five minute walk customers can hit-up EB Games, Best Purchase and FutureShop and all were opened for the midnight event (I didn’t personally see FutureShop opened but someone told me they were).
Arriving on the scene at around 11:30 PM EST I jumped out of my automobile and snapped a few pictures of the Ideal Purchase launch and then made my way down the plaza to the EB Games that I had pre-ordered the Special Edition. After waiting in line for about an hour, fueled by coffee and water, I had to make a tough decision. Sacrifice my bladder for the rest of my existence or get myself to the closest Tim Horton’s on the ASAP!
I left. When I came back the line wasn’t almost as bad but I still waited for a while noticing the people who were behind me leaving as I arrived back on the scene! I pondered hitting the Best Purchase, which was empty come 1:00 AM anyway, but I already paid for the title in full. According to my receipt I bought the game at 1:53 AM.
Yes, I’ve been awake ever since.

Electric Cars From Norway Coming to a City Near You
April 29, 2008
Filed under: Vehicle Tech, Green Tech

Think Global an electric car company based in Norway, announced last week that it will ship 50,000 of its electric vehicles to the U.S. The new Think automobiles are plug-in electrics that look like a cross between a Smart Car and a VW Cabriolet. The electric vehicles are shorter than the Smart car, but taller. In addition to the convertible pictured above, Think Global will release a two seater coup model.
The cars top out around 65 miles-per-hour and get about 110 miles to the charge, which is perfect for getting around the city, but good luck taking them on a roadtrip. The Think will set you back something like $17,000 in the U.S. and, curiously, the batteries will be leased separately for about $100 or $200 each, and might even include wireless and insurance. This is significantly less than other electric automobiles out there, like the Tesla, which costs more than $100,000, and will hopefully bring the electric car within reach for the average man/woman.
Think Global was launched in Oslo in 1991 and bought by Ford in 1999. Ford stopped leasing the cars in 2003, when California stopped requiring auto makers to produce zero-emissions cars. Now, Think is owned by Inspire, and its tech savvy investors hooked up with Google in 2006 to figure out what it means to be a 21st-century vehicle company. The result is expected to hit the road by the end of the year, so pretty soon you can start spending all your gas money on your hefty electric bill. [Source: ValleyWag]

Variety discusses ethics of ‘exclusive’ reviews
April 29, 2008
Sometimes it’s interesting to see the industry through fresh eyes again. Variety has an editorial up about the “ethically troubling” industry standard of exclusive reviews. The editorial specifically discusses IGN’s GTA IV “exclusive,” as the review site didn’t get a “scoop” by finding some early copy of the game and posting a review, but by being given permission by Rockstar to break embargo. Every other outlet had to wait until this past Sunday.
The Variety writer states that he doesn’t personally trust any review labeled “exclusive,” pointing out “reviews are entirely subjective, so if a critic is being influenced inappropriately in any way, the whole thing is worthless even though we as readers can’t prove there’s anything ‘wrong.’” The piece concludes by saying that any self-respecting publication with a GTA IV review should have run it the minute IGN released its review. It’s a lovely thought, but the last thing any review outlet wants is a reputation with PR firms for breaking embargo. In a worst case scenario, if any of these outlets signed legally binding non-disclosure agreements for these reviews, they’d have to face the possibility of being sued.
FC Mobile Portable NES takes a page from the modder book, adds some janky

A design masterpiece in the line of the Wooden Portable NES this certainly is not, but it’s fun to see a manufacturer taking seriously the concept of portable classic cartridge gaming, and what superior place to begin than the NES The FC Mobile Portable could very well be a rebadge of something or another, and there’s obviously no telling how legitimate this eBay auction is — so proceed at your own risk — but we know we’ve certainly squandered $50 on much less noble pursuits than old school portable gaming.
