Amateurs Send First HD Camcorder Into Space via Balloon
September 27, 2009
If you’re afraid of heights (or easily nauseated), this story might not be for you. On August 23rd, a group of amateur radio enthusiasts in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, took a high-definition video camera to new heights, literally. Reaching 107,145 feet with the help of a hydrogen balloon, this hi-def footage features some astounding views from the edge of outer space.
According to Gizmodo, the BEAR-4 project resulted in the first amateur footage captured at such an elevation. These amateur engineers housed a Canon Vixia-HF camcorder inside some foam blocks. Then, they attached the unit to an 1,800-gram balloon and launched it into the sky. The flight lasted about four hours, but thankfully, the highlights have been edited into an astonishing (and much shorter) 10-minute clip (after the break).

TGS 2009: Motion-controlled Resident Evil 5 caught on video
September 26, 2009
Remember when it was first announced that Resident Evil 5 wasn’t coming to the Wii, and fans got really upset, because Resident Evil 4 on the Wii was absolutely awesome It seems that decision wasn’t made due to Capcom’s oversight of stated awesomeness — rather, it looks like they chose to bring that experience to the PS3 with the ball-pointed PlayStation Motion Controller.
Seriously, check out this gameplay sample (video posted after the break) from Sony’s TGS keynote and tell us that doesn’t look exactly like RE4 on the Wii. Okay, the PS3 version is significantly prettier — and due to the fact that Sony’s controller has no nunchuck (which forces the player to hold a SIXAXIS in one hand and the wand in another) the controls look a bit more awkward this time around.

Hurry! Universal Invention of the Future just $10.50 on eBay
September 25, 2009
One man’s junk is another man’s treasure — that’s the bromide behind eBay. And sometimes if you look hard enough you can find a device that changes everything. An invention so magnificent, so unknowable, that its discovery alone could “make you feel good all over the world” without even making a bid. The prototype pictured above has universal purpose: it can inflate helium balloons when it detects hot lava, find gold floating in the sea, or let you know when a horse wakes up with the Swine Flu. Really, the choices here are limitless. And for just $10.51, the “Universal Invention of the future” is yours — hurry, just 8 hours left. Check the video treasure after the break, you can thank us later.

Palm Pre going for a nice, round $100 on contract at Amazon
September 25, 2009
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a Pre for $100, but coming from Amazon, the legitimacy level is at an all-time high. If you’re up for a contract renewal, it begs the question why you wouldn’t do this over… oh, pretty much anywhere else where you’re still paying the recently-reduced $149 rate — and it also makes you wonder just how much price pressure’s going to be on the Pixi’s diminutive shoulders by the time it launches.

Porn Stars Go Mobile in New iPhone Apps
September 25, 2009

The day of party has arrived for porn-loving iPhone owners. Sultry stars Sunny Leone and Aria Giovanni have officially made their Apple-approved iPhone app debuts, according to CNET. The apps, courtesy of GrindHouse Mobile, feature pics, blogs, and videos, but, in news certain to crush the hopes of adolescents everywhere, reportedly contain no actual nudity.
GrindHouse had to compromise its initial, too-”hot” vision so that the apps could meet Apple standards, but a GrindHouse spokesperson promised in a press release that the content would still be “compelling and user friendly.” Updated premium versions, which are currently seeking approval, would provide more “interactive features,” allowing fans to actually communicate with the stars. The porn-on-the-go creators are also in the process of developing an app that celebrates the adult talents of ‘The Girls of Erotica.com.’
