Finally, Zapper heads to Xbox Originals

November 15, 2008

Filed under: News, Xbox Live Marketplace

We know, we know. It’s kind of hard to keep reading this when you know that Zapper is headed to Xbox Originals. Stay with us though, because the game isn’t actually available yet, so you can’t run off to download it anyway. No, the game won’t actually be available on the service until November 17, at which point we envision all of the world’s social interaction and commerce will cease — apart from the large influx of MS Point buys — throwing the global economy into a tailspin. Deliveries will stop, utilities will shut down, but no one will care. We’ll all be mesmerized by the awesomeness that is Zapper, and we will play until the electricity fails. As Zapper constantly prods the pleasure nodes in our brains, we will slowly, blissfully succumb to starvation.

Either that or Zapper’s release will slip by totally unnoticed, one of the two.

Bolt demo lights up the Live Marketplace

November 15, 2008

Filed under: News, Xbox Live Marketplace

Ready for download off the Xbox Live Marketplace is a new 818MB Disney’s Bolt game demo. Feel the excitement

For the uninformed, Bolt is yet another video game based on a motion picture by the same name that features a dog named Bolt (voiced by one John Travolta) who truly believes he’s a super hero dog. But no matter how good the motion picture might sound, the game will probably be trash thanks to long held tradition of movie based games turning out to be utter crud. That stated, we love the movie’s hamster character named Rhino. Just watch the embedded video and you’ll see why.

Presenting the GTAIV key to Liberty City

November 14, 2008

Way back when Grand Theft Auto IV launched in April, Rockstar hosted a contest to award keys to the city to the most dedicated players, specifically those who could reach a 100% completion rating. It looks like Rockstar is finally shipping out those fabulous keys, and X3F tipster Joe F. was kind enough to send us pictures of his personal key to Liberty City. Check out the gallery below and covet what you cannot have (unless you managed to snag one yourself, of course).

Save those seconds: Handy NXE game install chart

November 14, 2008

Installing games is definitely one of the more intriguing features of the New Xbox Experience. We’ve tested it. So has Eurogamer. When it comes right down to it, the performance increase (if any) varies wildly on a game by game basis. If only there was some central source we could check to see how well a game runs after it’s installed. If only there were some place where such information was arranged in an intuitive manner, alphabetically perhaps. Wait a minute! BingeGamer already put together a chart and it lists 360 games in alphabetical order! The chart also lists how big a footprint each game will leave on your HDD (Lost Odyssey is 23.2 gigs, yikes).

Not surprisingly, there are still plenty of games that haven’t been tested, so be sure to drop a comment at BingeGamer if you have some data about a game that isn’t listed yet. Large Bumpin’, sadly, isn’t supported, so don’t bother with that one.

New screens and trailer of Avatars in Kingdom for Keflings

November 13, 2008

Filed under: News, Xbox Live Arcade

Last week, Microsoft announced that Ninjabee’s upcoming city builder A Kingdom for Keflings will be the first Xbox 360 game to allow players to play as their own Avatar. We spoke with Ninjabee following the announcement and now we have some exclusive new screens and a new trailer showcasing Avatars in A Kingdom for Keflings. Whether you decide to help your Keflings construct their village or just punt them like footballs is up to you. Somehow, we envision the former is more prone to get your Keflings to dance at your feet, though. Check out the new trailer embedded above and the new screens in the gallery below.

Also, Ninjabee’s logo, the ninja bee, needs his own game. Period.

BIG Fable 2 announcement coming next week

November 12, 2008

In an effort to steal our gaming attention, Lionhead just posted a new blog teasing that next week will bring a BIG Fable 2 announcement.

“I dare say it’s a massive announcement regarding Fable II, next week!” states the teasing blog, which can only logically be referring to one thing … Fable 2 DLC. That’s if logic holds true. It’s either DLC or some sort of huge announcement telling us that they’ll be releasing a game patch that’ll make those Pub Games cheaters’ copies of Fable 2 start on fire the next time the game is loaded. Wouldn’t that be fun

EA milks Dead Space with purchasable DLC

November 12, 2008

Filed under: News, Xbox Live Marketplace, Dead Space

Later this week (November 13th to be exact), Dead Space will be receiving a bunch of downloadable content. Paid downloadable content that’ll change the look and feel of your Dead Space gaming experience.

You can view the complete list of DLC after the break, which includes various armor and weapon content that ranges in price from 80 to 320 Microsoft points. We wish the content was free (like the Elite offering weeks back), but we’ve to let EA be EA and let them milk their Dead Space cash cow. Bleh.

Halo 3 Team Flag double EXP weekend

November 11, 2008

All weekend long, Bungie is offering double experience points to those who want to play Team Flag in Halo 3. That’s right, it’s another Halo 3 Double EXP Weekend and this week we’re being treated to Team Flag, a 5v5 flag’tacular playlist that’s made up of flag gametypes

The massive question is whether or not anyone is all that interested in a Halo 3 double EXP weekend when a certain curb-stomping game just released. Sorry Halo, this weekend you’re taking the the back seat and letting Marcus drive the Xbox Live car. Unless you’re willing to offering quadruple the EXP … then we’d think about it.

Infinity Ward goes off on Activision for ‘bullshit quotes’

November 11, 2008

Filed under: News, Call of Duty: World at War

Well this was unexpected. Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling, known as fourzerotwo, recently posted some choice words about Activision producer Noah Heller. Specifically, Bowling asks Heller to “stop doing interviews,” saying that he needs to stop comparing Call of Duty: World at War to Call of Duty 4 and that the game can “stand on it’s [sic] own merits.” Bowling then cites a “bullshit quote” from a recent CVG interview in which Heller says that previous Call of Duty titles required several shots with bolt action rifles to make a kill and says that Treyarch has corrected this in World at War. Responded Bowling: “WTF are you talking about! … First of all, you didn’t work on ‘previous Call of Dutys‘, so don’t speak as if you’re down with how / why things were designed the way they were. Second, you’re totally fucking wrong.”

Bowling concludes that World at War has many good features and that Activision would be better off promoting them instead of comparing the game to previous titles. He notes that the media should interview someone from Treyarch that “knows what the fuck they’re speaking about” and not “Senior Super Douche Noah Heller from Activision - who apparently has never played the game and doesn’t even work at the developer.” Yowch. Soap operas aren’t this good.
